IRIS BURCHI
(B. 1971) Caracas, Venezuela
Iris Burchi, an abstract female painter born in Caracas, Venezuela, lived in Mexico from 2013 to 2022.
Her artistic practice is deeply personal and contemplative, reflecting her belief in energy, vibrations, and changes.
Burchi views the action of painting as a dialogue between reflection and instinct, a refuge to observe the emotional world. Her work is a journey of self-reinvention, exploring the connections between energy, emotions, and existential dynamics.
Since 1999, she has been recognized for balancing divergent emotional expressions in her abstract paintings. Her first exhibition, “The Art of Silence” (2004) in Caracas, was noticeably influenced by Michelangelo, Balthus, and Kandinsky. She mentored artists at the Marapa Archaeological Museum, incorporating rock art and natural pigments into her work. Subsequent exhibitions include “Without Limits” (2006), which was well-received despite the disappearance of two paintings, a 2015 exhibition in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico, and “Polarities, Integrating, and Parts” (2018), showcasing 26 acrylic paintings celebrating emotions and colors.
Her 2024 creations feature simple colors and forms inspired by Mexican art history, emphasizing fragility and sensibility.
